Meeting in the U.S. State of Utah

Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board (CMB), is on a visit to the United States of America.

Traveling in the state of Utah at the invitation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints community and the Stirling Foundation, CMB Chairman Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazade met with the leadership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, led by President Dallin Oaks, in Salt Lake City on October 2.

Following a sincere greeting, Dallin Oaks gave the floor to the Sheikh-ul-Islam.

The CMB Chairman thanked them for the invitation, and first and foremost, conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the President of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the First Lady of our country, Mehriban Aliyeva, and the Azerbaijani people. Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazade expressed his deepest condolences regarding the passing of the Church's former leader, President Russell Nelson, and then congratulated Dallin Oaks as the new President of the Church. The CMB Chairman also conveyed his congratulations to the Church leadership on the official inclusion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints community into Azerbaijan's multicultural family. Highly valuing the upward trajectory of relations between the US and Azerbaijan, Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazade noted the role of both countries' Presidents in this progress. He highly appreciated the continuous efforts of the US toward achieving peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and considered the August 8 Washington Summit a result of these valuable efforts and the personal support of US President Mr. Donald Trump for the peace process. The CMB Chairman expressed his thanks for President Donald Trump's role in the successful conclusion of the Washington Peace Summit.

Emphasizing that the friendly relations established between the religious confessions of the United States of America and Azerbaijan are extremely valuable, CMB Chairman A. Pashazade noted that mutual visits, joint events, and shared projects carry spiritual significance and serve the interests of our peoples. Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazade expressed his deep gratitude for the Stirling Foundation's significant material and moral support for the humanitarian initiative of mine clearance in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.

Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazade invited President Dallin Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to visit Azerbaijan. President D. Oaks, in turn, described the Sheikh-ul-Islam's visit to Utah as a landmark event for their Church, expressing that they were greatly honored. He stated that the development of relations with Islam and Muslims is a key priority for the Church he leads. He expressed his deep thanks to the Sheikh-ul-Islam for the valuable support shown to their Church within the Islamic world. Accepting the greetings of the President of Azerbaijan with gratitude, D. Oaks, in turn, requested the Sheikh-ul-Islam to convey his most sincere greetings to the head of the Azerbaijani state. Accepting the invitation to visit Azerbaijan with appreciation, D. Oaks noted his great interest in visiting our country. Thanking the Sheikh-ul-Islam for the letter of condolences regarding the passing of the Church's late President, Dallin Oaks also expressed gratitude for the sincere congratulations on his election as the new President. He specifically noted that the Sheikh-ul-Islam was the first religious leader to congratulate him. Church President Dallin Oaks proudly stressed that the participation of Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazade as a guest of honor in the Church's General Conference was a great honor for them.

Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center, and Javanshir Pashazade, Member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated in the meeting. Mr. R. Hasanov expressed his satisfaction with the successful continuation of US-Azerbaijan relations across various platforms, including interreligious dialogue and cooperation. Deputy Javanshir Pashazade, as a member of the Public Associations and Religious Institutions Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament, welcomed the high level of interreligious relations between the two countries. He specifically noted that the peace agreement initialed with the participation of the US has opened a new chapter for peace, tranquility, and development in the South Caucasus, creating new prospects for the development of communication opportunities, and expressed his thanks to the US government in this regard.

The visit of Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board, to the United States of America continues.
