On the occasion of Ashura Day, a voluntary blood donation drive was organized on June 25 at the Tazapir Mosque, on the initiative of the Caucasus Muslims Board and with the joint organization of the Ministry of Health.
According to AZERTAC, the citizens taking part in the drive first underwent medical examination.
Blood samples were taken from those who applied to become donors and their health condition was checked; blood was then collected from those deemed fit to donate. The collected blood will be received by the staff of the Republican Blood Bank, processed in the appropriate manner, and used in the treatment of patients in need of blood — including those suffering from thalassemia, hemophilia, and other blood disorders.
At the initiative of Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board, the heads and representatives of the various religious confessions operating in Azerbaijan also took part in the blood donation drive.
It was noted that the blood donation drive held on the occasion of Ashura Day has already become a humanitarian tradition in the country, with thousands of citizens joining this charitable initiative every year and contributing to saving the lives of people in need of blood.
The drive is being carried out within the framework of humanitarian events organized in various cities and districts of the republic on the occasion of Ashura Day, and is met with great enthusiasm by citizens.
