As we previously reported, the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, was recently elected as a Co-President and member of the World Council of "Religions for Peace," the world's largest interreligious network. In this regard, Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazade visited the organization's headquarters in New York within the framework of his visit to the USA.
The Chairman of the CMB and the accompanying delegation were met by the organization's Secretary-General, Nobel Laureate Dr. Francis Kuria. The Secretary-General warmly welcomed the guest and expressed his deep thanks for visiting the headquarters shortly after being elected as one of the organization's leaders. He then provided detailed information about the structure and activities of the institution he heads.
Sheikh-ul-Islam informed Mr. Kuria about the environment of multiculturalism and interreligious harmony in Azerbaijan, spoke about the exceptional role of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in shaping this environment, the attention and care of the President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and First Vice-President, Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, towards all religious communities in the country, and discussed the Consultative Council of Religious Confessions operating in our country.
Dr. Francis Kuria noted that the "Religions for Peace" organization will benefit from Azerbaijan's extensive experience in interreligious dialogue and cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center, Cavanşir Paşazadə, Member of the National Assembly, Khazar Ibrahim, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to the USA, and Tofig Musayev, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN.
