Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board, is on a visit to the Republic of Mauritius to take part in the annual meeting of the 2026 World Council of the "Religions for Peace" organization, held on June 23–26. Sheikh ul-Islam A. Pashazade was elected Co-President of the World Council of "Religions for Peace" in 2025, and it is in this capacity that he is participating in this year's meeting, at the invitation of Secretary General Dr. Francis Kuria.
On June 24, His Excellency Dharambeer Gokhool, President of the Republic of Mauritius, personally received Sheikh ul-Islam A. Pashazade. During the meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere at the Presidential Palace with the participation of the country's First Lady, the relations between our countries were discussed. Recalling the Mauritian President's recent visit to Azerbaijan within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF-13), Sheikh ul-Islam A. Pashazade conveyed the greetings of the President of Azerbaijan to His Excellency President Dharambeer Gokhool. The Mauritian President said that Azerbaijan is an exceptionally beautiful, captivating, and hospitable country with a most sincere and wise president. The Mauritian head of state asked the Sheikh ul-Islam to convey his cordial greetings to His Excellency President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan.
Sharing his rich and pleasant impressions of his visit to our country with the Sheikh ul-Islam, President Dharambeer Gokhool of Mauritius highly praised the successes achieved by the Azerbaijani state under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, its growing prestige on the international stage, and its hosting of events of global significance, and noted with satisfaction that he had discussed with our head of state the prospects for cooperation with our country in the fields of economy, education, energy — including renewable energy — tourism, and other areas.
President D. Gokhool emphasized that his visit to Azerbaijan had created a good opportunity to hold discussions on the development of bilateral relations and their various aspects, and expressed his satisfaction with the current level of our political relations. He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Mauritius in 1996, relations between the two countries are now at their highest level.
Kind words were exchanged about the atmosphere of interreligious harmony in our countries. President Dharambeer Gokhool of the Republic of Mauritius made special mention of his pleasant impressions from visiting the Bibiheybat Mosque complex during his stay in Azerbaijan. Touching upon the directions for developing religious and spiritual ties between Azerbaijan and Mauritius, Sheikh ul-Islam A. Pashazade placed special emphasis on the worldwide recognition of our country's exemplary models in the fields of interreligious dialogue and cooperation, as well as inter-confessional understanding. The meeting also discussed the prospects for cooperation between our countries within international organizations and for mutual visits at various levels.
President Dharambeer Gokhool of the Republic of Mauritius made a point of emphasizing that he holds Sheikh ul-Islam A. Pashazade in high regard as an authoritative elder religious figure of the Islamic world. President D. Gokhool also expressed his high appreciation of Sheikh ul-Islam A. Pashazade's participation, as Co-President of the World Council of "Religions for Peace," in the organization's annual meeting held in Mauritius, and of the significance of the event.
