During his visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board, met with the High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Miguel Ángel Moratinos, on September 18 as part of his participation in the 8th Astana Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
During the sincere meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the high level of cooperation between UNAOC and the Azerbaijani state and, as a religious center, the Caucasus Muslims Board. It was noted that UNAOC actively participates in events hosted by Azerbaijan and supports the initiatives put forward by our country in the sphere of interfaith and inter-civilizational dialogue and cooperation. The Azerbaijani state and the Caucasus Muslims Board, in turn, successfully host UNAOC Global Forums and are always represented at a high level at its events. Mr. M.A. Moratinos expressed his deep gratitude to the chairman of the CMB, Sheikh-ul-Islam, for his active participation in the 10th UNAOC Global Forum in Cascais and the Commemoration event in Hernica. He expressed his hope that Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazade would also actively participate in the upcoming events planned by the organization he leads.
Emphasizing that Azerbaijan hosts interfaith forums at a high level, the UN official recalled that he is authorized to combat Islamophobia and noted that Azerbaijan is active in this area. He shared his thoughts on organizing joint conferences in the future. Mr. M.A. Moratinos specifically emphasized the importance of Azerbaijan's model of multiculturalism, interfaith tolerance, and inter-denominational understanding for the global community and the necessity of its continuous promotion.
Appreciating Azerbaijan's achievements toward peace in the region, Mr. M.A. Moratinos took the opportunity to congratulate Sheikh-ul-Islam A. Pashazade on his recent election as co-president of the prestigious international organization "Religions for Peace" and wished him success in his efforts and deeds of human significance.
The Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center, Ravan Hasanov, participated in the meeting.
