On April 28, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, visited the Bibi-Heybat Mosque.
The guest was welcomed by the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, and the Chairman of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, Ramin Mammadov.
The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran was provided with extensive information about the history of the mosque-shrine. It was stated that Hakima Khanum, the daughter of the seventh Imam, Musa al-Kazim, is buried here. In the 13th century, a mosque was built on the territory of the shrine by order of the Shirvanshah ruler Abu'l-Fath Farrukhzad.
During the Soviet era, when atheism was promoted, this mosque-shrine also faced repression; in 1936, under the pretext of building a new road in the area, the mosque was blown up.
After the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, returned to power for the second time, he signed an order for the restoration of the Bibi-Heybat Mosque and participated in the opening of the mosque after its restoration on June 12, 1998.
By order of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the territory of the mosque-shrine was expanded, and the complex was placed at the disposal of believers on July 14, 2008.
The Iranian head of state wrote his heartfelt words in the Book of Honorable Guests of the mosque-shrine complex.
